It is a sad title, but a very true statement. This is a necessary concept to understand if you are really going to weather the storms of life as a professional singer.
No matter how fantastic you sing, there will always be haters...
People who don't appreciate you, aren't nice about it, and are sure their opinions are golden.
Even worse, these people sometimes will be in decision making positions that can affect your future.
They might not like the way you look, your vibrato, your technique, song choice, vocal timbre, how bright or dark you sing, whether you are nasal or sound swallowed. They may not like your genre, your acting, your outfit...
You need to be able to live with that. And that is hard to do.
It is hard not to take it personally, after you prepped and tried your hardest.
It is even harder to get back up and do it again and again without seeming wounded or desperate.
But you must if you want to really sing in life. You must stand up again and again, even after they shoot you down with their negativity. Even after they flippantly attack what may be most precious and vulnerable about who you are:
Your voice, your performance, your passion.
How dare they do it. Especially those who are not even singers. How dare they fire at your dreams.
But there will always be those that will pull the trigger.
This is just a reality check. If you face, and accept that you will never be able to control it, then you have a shot.
You will not change them. You must just accept that they will always be out there, no matter how great you sing.
You must take on the role of a warrior to battle for your dreams to sing.
I wish you great strength beautiful singers :).
Sing well!
